Sonicflood Live in the Philippines!

August 15, 2008

At first, I can't believe it, until I read it directly from Ticket Net, the official ticketing office of the concert. Wow, this is GREAT, my favorite worship band is coming over and finally I could listen to all their praise and worship songs LIVE!!!

For those who haven't heard of Sonicflood yet, they are acknowledged as one of the best groups of today in the area of contemporary Christian music. Although there have already been many bands in the past who made hits out of modern praise and worship songs, the one credited with bringing this music to the consciousness of today's kids is Sonicflood.

Among its hitsongs are: "Lord, I Lift Your Name On High," "Open The Eyes Of My Heart," "I Have To Know You (In The Secret)," "I Will Give"/"Cry Holy," "I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever," "Better Is One Day," "In Your Hands," "The Heart Of Worship," "You Are Worthy Of My Praise," "Here I Am To Worship," "Trading My Sorrow," and many more.

I just couldn't let this chance pass by, I have to be in the concert and hear them play my favorite Christian songs. So last August 15, I went to Araneta Coliseum amidst the heavy downpour and traffic. Good that I left the house at around 6PM as I travelled for more than 2 hours, barely missing the opening act! When I entered the place, I couldn't believe that it was fully packed, mostly by youngsters. I was elated by the turn-out.

Then the concert started. The Christian band who opened the act made the audience clamor for more and when Sonicflood went on stage, everybody was already energized. At they played their first song, I Have Come to Worship You, a different yet wonderful energy went inside me. It was an unexplainable feeling! Going back to the concert, we were on our feet in every song, clapping our hands and singing our hearts out. I was very much touched by the testimony of Sonicflood's lead singer, Rick Heil, who suffered from Chrom's disease for 20 years and was miraculously healed last year. Known to be an incurable disease, Rick wanted to end his life and turned his back against any hope of recovering, until he accepted and offered his life to our Saviour, Lord Jesus Christ. From then on, he saw every day in pain as a blessing and an opportunity to thank God. And his faith paid off... He unabashedly told the audience that if God cured him and melted his heart of stone, what more for us?

When the group sang the Heart of Worship and Here I am to Worship, I couldn't help but cry, as most of the audience did, not because of sadness but because of joy. I was happy that I had renewed my relationship with God even before the concert happened, and happy knowing that God is indeed good. And as if reading our minds, the band played " I Could Sing of your Love" to re-affirm our praise and worship.

The concert lasted until 11:30PM. It was a humbling experience being there and it was worth more than the P1050 ticket I bought, priceless. If there will be more concert like this, I wouldn't think twice in watching. Months from now, I might forget the song order or all the sharings the band gave, but certainly, I will not forget what Heil said, "Do not judge Christianity by its people, judge it thru Jesus Christ."

God is good, all the time!
